Service Description
What This Program Is A community-based, non-clinical program designed to support neurodivergent teens/young adults in building independence, confidence, and meaningful social connections through real-life experiences. The ability to join in Community events, connections, fun, games and real life growth by trying new things in a safe, informed and like-minded community. Core Focus Areas • Independence: navigating real-world environments safely and confidently • Social connection: building friendships and reducing isolation • Life skills: money, planning, communication, daily living • Confidence: making decisions and trying new experiences Skills Developed • Ordering food and interacting in public spaces • Budgeting and handling money • Planning outings and routines • Problem-solving in real-life situations • Communication and social boundaries Session Format Sessions take place in the community and rotate between different real-life environments. Our weeks are broken into "Themed" Outings such as 'MEET, TRY, GO AND LIVE (CHOICE INCLUDED TOO) • Coffee shops and restaurants • Grocery stores and meal prep sessions • Recreational outings (bowling, movies, walks) • Community events and social meetups Our Approach Connection-first and experience-based. We guide and support participants in real-time, allowing them to learn through doing rather than instruction. Support is individualized, respectful, and paced to each person’s comfort level. Role of Staff Staff act as guides and support rather than authority figures. They model social behavior, provide gentle coaching, and encourage independence while ensuring safety and emotional regulation. What are they learning? Included but not limited to; Ordering Food, handling money, Community Navigation, Executive Functioning, Friendship, Self Advocacy and trying new things! Unsure if INDEPENDANCE GROUP IS A FIT?
